Gates, Johnson, Carrington, and Durham Recognized by Region 20

Cecil College men's basketball players Khalid Gates, Darell Johnson, and Dominick Carrington earned NJCAA All-Region 20 recognition for their outstanding performance in the region for the 2021-2022 season. Head Coach Ed Durham was also named Mid-Atlantic Region/Region 20 Coach of the Year for leading his team to 26-2 regular season record, Region 20 Division II Championship, and Elite Eight appearance in the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship.

Khalid Gates was named All-Region 20 First Team after leading his team in scoring and rebounding with 15.6 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game. Gates scored double-digit points in 21 contests and recorded double-doubles in points and rebounds in nine contests. He tallied a career-high 31 points against #3 Sullivan County Community College in the quarterfinal round of the national tournament and a career-high 19 rebounds against Garrett College on December 15. He was also named MD JUCO and NJCAA Region 20 DII Player of the Month in January for his outstanding performace during the month. Gates finished his career as a Seahawk with 671 career points, 452 of them coming from the 2021-2022 season.

Darell Johnson was also named to the All-Region 20 First Team and found himself second on the squard in scoring and rebounding behind Gates. Johnson averaged 14.1 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game, and 3.2 assists per game (second on team). Johnson started all 31 contests this season, scored 10+ points in 28 of them, and recorded nine double-doubles. He recorded a career-high 10 assists against Harcum College on February 16 and two career-high games of 27 points on February 19 and March 1. Johnson was named MD JUCO and NJCAA Region 20 DII Player of the Month in February for his outstanding performance during the month. Johnson finished his career as a Seahawk with 679 points, 437 of them coming from the 2021-2022 season.

Freshman point guard Dominick Carrington earned All-Region 20 Honorable Mention during his debut season as Seahawk. Carrington averaged 10.5 points per game, 2.9 assists per game, 2.0 rebounds per game, and 1.5 steals per game as a freshman. Carrington made 29 starts in 31 games for the Seahawks and tallied a career-high 35 points against Hagerstown on February 7. In this game, Carrington made 10 three-pointers, tieing a school record for most three-pointers made in a single game. Carrington finished his freshman season with 324 career points.
