Volleyball Drops Two to Begin Season

SCRANTON - Cecil College volleyball suffered a pair of defeats to start the season, falling 3-2 to PSU Hazleton and 3-0 to tri-match Host Lackawanna.

The Seahawks traveled the farthest distance on Saturday, meaning they were given the final two contests of the afternoon. Cecil came off the bus hot, winning the first set 25-17. After a lopsided second went to the Lions, the two sides battled in the third before PSU ultimately claimed it.

With their backs against the wall, Cecil responded with a 25-16 win to force set five. Both teams had their chances in the final set, but ultimately the Lions came away with the victory.

Freshman duo Etta Harris and Ryleigh Racine led the Seahawks with 13 and 12 kills respectively. Sophomore Katarina Kuchera paired a 16 digs and five aces with 11 kills. Setter Rachel Mullins topped the team 37 assists.

PSU's Kaytlin Kelley led all players with 16 kills.

Lackawanna 3, Cecil 0

Cecil did not fair as well against the Falcons, falling in straight sets to the hosts in the final contest of the day.

After dropping the first set 25-12, the Seahawks fell in the final two by single digits. Etta Harris once again led Cecil's attack, this time with seven kills.
