NORTH EAST - Cecil College softball utilized Montgomery's errors to take a 5-4 victory over the Raptors in Friday's opening contest.
Four of the Seahawks five runs were directly related to mistakes from the visitors. A fielding error by Montgomery's center fielder allowed Sloane Tanner to score for Cecil's first lead of the game in the third. However, the Seahawks would make errors in the fourth and sixth to put the Raptors ahead 4-2.
Cecil battled back in the sixth, planting two runners on with two outs thanks to a single and a fielding error from the Raptors. Madison Nolan stepped up and made them pay, sending a ball up the middle of the diamond to score them both and tie the game.
After Gianna Dougherty kept Montgomery off the scoreboard in the seventh, she would lead off the bottom of the frame with a double down the left field line. However, back-to-back flyouts would strand her on third. Tristan Canavan stepped up and drove a third ball to the outfield, but the Raptors dropped the ball and Dougherty walked home with ease.
Cecils jumps to 16-11 (7-8 Region 20) after the win.
