KEYSER - Cecil College softball held its own against No. 25 Potomac State, falling in two close affairs with the Catamounts on Wednesday.
The Seahawks are now 7-7 on the year.
Game One - Potomac State 6, Cecil 3
Gianna Dougherty and Tristan Canavan combined for five hits, but the Seahawks late offensive performance was not enough to overcome Potomac State in the opener.
Dougherty touched home twice for the Seahawks, scoring on Sloane Tanner's single to right. Canavan brought home both in the seventh with a double to left. Dougherty tossed two strikeouts from the circle but was stuck with the loss.
Game Two - Potomac State 9, Cecil 4
The Catamounts did all of its work on offensive early, grabbing nine runs in the first three innings. The Seahawks finally got on the board when Sloane Tanner homered in the third to bring in two. Tanner finished with three hits.
Tristan Canavan continued to find success in the late innings, driving home Tanner via the long ball in the seventh. Cecil's rally was put down out thereafter.
Gianna Dougherty struck out one and took the loss from the rubber. Amaia Smith pitched the final four innings and sent two packing via K.
