Cecil Shows Promise in Defeat

NORTH EAST - Cecil softball produced its two best offensive performances of the season on Wednesday, tallying eight runs on 17 hits across two contests with Southern Maryland.

Game One

Cecil recorded a season high four runs and 10 hits in the opening contest. Byronique Robinson led the team with three hits, two RBI, and a stolen base. Iyana Jurry had one RBI and a triple. Jhaydin Ledford continued her hot streak at the dish with two hits and a walk.

Natalie Cook and Mecarte Olsen collected the first hits of their collegiate careers.

Game Two

The Seahawks created some early fireworks, sparked by a leadoff triple via Sasha Jorstad. A two-RBI base knock by Byronique Robinson gave Cecil its first lead of the day, then Jhaydin Ledford touched home after a double steal to give Cecil a 3-1 advantage after one frame.

An error and back-to-back singles loaded the bases for the Seahawks again in the second, but Southern Maryland got out of the jam with a popout and a strikeout to the next two batters.

After a rough third inning, the Seahawks would battle back in the fourth with a two-out rally. Ledford energized the team with a double to right, then Robinson drove her in with a line drive up the middle. A single from Natalie Cook put runners on the corners, but a punchout retired the side. Cecil went down in order in the final frame to end the contest.
