Seahawks Battle to a Draw in Home Opener

NORTH EAST, Md. - Cecil broke in its brand new turf field in a clash with Region 20 foe Potomac State, dueling the Catamounts to a 1-1 tie Tuesday afternoon.

The visitors took a 1-0 into the break on after a goal late in the first half. The Seahawks looked better in the opening minutes of the second but still trailed with 15 minutes to play.

After a corner kick fell flat for the Catamounts in the 75th minute, Cecil would counter-attack with a long ball down the field to Izak Battle Jr. The freshman turned a great pass into an even better strike, making one defender miss before wheeling off a shot that floated over the goalie and into the back of the net.

Both teams had their chances to find a second goal down the stretch but were unsuccessful. Cecil goalie Aidan Hayes (0-0-1) made a few nice saves in the closing minutes to bring his total to 18 stops for the game.

Cecil moves to 0-0-1 (0-0-1 Region 20) on the year.
