NORTH EAST - The Cecil College men's basketball program spotlighted its past and present over the weekend, while also picking up a pair of key victories against Region 20 Division 2 opponents along the way.
Saturday showcased Cecil men's basketball alumni, featuring premier names from the past. This included Cecil College Athletics Hall of Famer and all-time leading scorer DJ Wootson, 2006 NJCAA D2 Player of the Year Eddie Miller, and many more. Wootson's team narrowly defeated its opposition in a high scoring game that came down to the wire.
The contest that followed between the current Seahawks and Westmoreland County proved to be not as close, as Cecil defeated the Wolfpack by 34 points. Eight different players scored at least six points, including a career high 18 from Javon Jenkins off the bench. Cecil's defense forced a season high 24 turnovers.
The Seahawks turned their focus to its current roster on Sunday with Sophomore Day, where the program recognized the contributions of its six second-year players. Jaiden Guy, Amir Hite, Jermaine Goodwyn, Shaun Chandler, Corey Palmer, and Darrien Berrios Rivera were all honored prior to the start of the game. Cecil grabbed its 22nd win of the season shortly after, ripping past Beaver County via a 106-82 scoreline. 10 Seahawks found their way onto the scoresheet in this contest, including 19-point showings from Guy and Chandler.
Cecil will wrap up its 2024-25 regular season campaign on Wednesday, February 26 at Montgomery. The Seahawks will then travel to Howard for the Region 20 D2 Tournament from March 6-8.
