NORTH EAST, Md. - Former Cecil College men's basketball player Jacob Falko has signed a professional contract to play for IR Reykjavik of the Iceland-Subway League, the top league of Icelandic Basketball Federation.
Falko, a guard from North East, Md., spent the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons at Cecil. The Seahawks posted a 47-19 record over this stretch. He finished his career as the program's all-time leader in field-goal percentage at 57%. Falko sits sixth all-time in scoring with 1,143 points.
"Jacob was an absolute joy to coach for two years and had a profound affect on the program," said Cecil College Athletic Director and Head Men's Basketball Coach Ed Durham. "I am not surprised at all at his success. He proudly wore the green and gold and his competitive fire had an impact on his teammates every day. He made everyone better around him."
As a freshman, Falko helped the Seahawks achieve a third place finish at the NJCAA Division 2 National Tournament. His role would increase dramatically in 2019-20, where he averaged a program record 23.7 points per game. Falko piled up accolades as a sophomore, grabbing three Maryland JUCO Conference Player of the Month awards. After the season, he was named First Team NJCAA D2 All-American, First Team All-Region 20 D2, Maryland JUCO Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-Maryland JUCO Conference.
Falko moved on to Gardner Webb University for the 2020-21 season, where he averaged 9.8 points over 26 games. Winter sport student-athletes who competed during 2020-21 season in Division I received an additional season of competition due to COVID-19.
At the end of the year, he transferred to Binghamton University for his final two seasons. He played in 58 contests (55 starts) for the Bearcats while averaging 13.5 points per game. He was the only Binghamton player to be named to an All-American East Conference team in both seasons.
