Men's Basketball Extends Win Streak to 10 Games with Win Over Frederick

Cecil College men's basketball picked up their 10th straight win after defeating the Cougars of Frederick Community College by a 21-point margin on Wednesday night. The Seahawks improve to 14-5 overall and remain unbeaten (5-0) by MD JUCO opponents.

The Seahawks will need to win their next contest to tie last year's eleven-game win streak that eventually propelled the 2019 Cecil College men's basketball team to win the region championship and finish as the #4 team at the NJCAA Region XX DII National Tournament in Danville, Illinois.

The Seahawks and Cougars opened the game with a back-and-forth start as each team traded points for the first eight minutes. The Cougars found themselves on top with a 16-15 lead after converting a jump shot from beyond the arc at the 12:09 mark in the first half.

Jacob Falko got his first two buckets of the game while sparking a 13-0 run for the Seahawks in the next two minutes, and a 50-14 run that would give them their largest lead of 65-30 at the half. McKale Williams followed Falko's made-lay up with one of his own and George Davey drained back-to-back three pointers and converted two free throws before the Cougars would score again. Davey had a game-high 11 points at the halftime break.

The Seahawks held on to their lead throughout the second half to eventually defeat the Cougars by a final score of 107-86.

Jacob Falko finished with a team-high 18 points and added seven rebounds, eight assists, and caused one turnover. Falko currently ranks second in the conference in scoring average with 23.8 points per game, but holds the top spot in shot percentage (64.2%) and three-point percentage (47.3%).

Five additional Seahawks tallied double-digit points including Justin Cohen (12 rebounds), Nicholas Wells, McKale Williams, O'Dell Dickerson, and George Davey. Diere Hodges contribued seven points, seven assists, and three steals while Matthew Pearson added six points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, January 25 when they host Garrett College for another MD JUCO and NJCAA Region XX DII match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. or immediately following the women's game.
