Seahawks Split in Opener at CCBC Dundalk

Cecil College men's basketball came away from opening weekend with a 1-1 to start their season at the CCBC Dundalk Mixer. The Seahawks defeated the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (Va.) on Friday by a score of 86-78 and lost to the Avengers of ASA College (Ny.) by a 5-point margin.

The Seahawks and Bobcats battled in a competive start to the contest, but Cecil was able to accumulate a steady lead as time pressed on. Cecil College found themselves with a 35-32 lead with 3:00 minutes to play in the first half. In the next three minutes, the Seahawks extended their lead to 9 points heading into the half time break.

The Seahawks led by as a many as 14 with 10:00 minutes remaining in the contest and wound up with an 8-point victory over the Bobcats in their season opener. Five Seahawks tallied double-digit points in the win including freshman guard Hassan Corbin leading the way with 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Freshman Jacob Falko came off the bench for Cecil College and added 16 points, went 7-11 from the free throw line, and dished out seven assists. Other players in double-digit scoring included Cornell Corbin, Shylier Ringgold, and McKale Williams. Williams lead the Seahawks' defensively causing six Bobcats' turnovers. Corbin brothers, Cornell and Hassan, combined for 17 of the Seahawks' 47 rebounds.

With a day of rest, the Seahawks were back in action against the Avengers of ASA College (Ny.) on Sunday, November 4, and faced their first defeat of the season. Cecil College was plagued by a slow start in the first ten minutes of action and found themselves down 12 at the half. The Seahawks were able to chip away, but still found themselves down five as time expired in the contest.

Sophomore guard Cornell Corbin tallied 21 points and collected nine rebounds, one rebound away from registering his first double-double of the season. Jacob Falko added another 18 points for the Seahawks and currently leads the Seahawks with 17 points per game after opening weekend. Shylier Ringgold was strong under the basket, scoring 11 points and grabbing 5 rebounds, for his second double-digit scoring performance in a row.

Cecil College men's basketball returns to action in their home opener on Tuesday, November 6 when they host Delaware Technical Community College. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
