LA PLATA - Cecil College baseball closed out their regular season with a dissapointing split with the Southern Maryland (CSM) Hawks.
The Seahawks end the regular season 28-24 (17-17 Region 20 D2).
Game One - Southern Maryland 18, Cecil 10
The Hawks stunned the Seahawks in the opener, scoring 18 runs in the final two innings to take down Cecil.
The Seahawks kept CSM off the the board for the first four frames while getting themselves out to a 7-0 lead. The Hawks finally struck in the bottom, scoring sux runs to pull right behind Cecil.
Couper Stala seemingly created more distance in the sixth, powering three-run blast to center for a 10-6 Cecil advantage. However, the Seahawks' bullpen was bombared by the Hawks with 12 runs on 10 hits in the bottom of the frame. The Seahawks went down without much noise in the seventh to hand CSM the contest.
Game Two - Cecil 7, Southern Maryland 5
Cecil relied on the long ball in the closing contest, riding a trio of home runs to victory.
Down 2-0 in the fourth, both Ben Campbell and Chris Woods went deep and collected two RBI each to give Cecil the lead. Gio Malatesta's single scored a fifth run for the frame, putting Cecil out in front 5-2. After a CSM solo home run put the hosts with two, Woods would double the lead once more with his second homer of the day.
Woods also featured on the mound, going three innings in a starting role. Chad Francis stepped in and tossed eight strikeouts over the last four innings to take the win from the hill.
