NORTH EAST - Cecil College baseball had a rough, rainy Saturday at the ballpark. The Seahawks were shutout by Chesapeake in game one before being handed a lopsided defeat in game two.
Cecil is now 26-22 (15-15 Region 20).
Game One - Chesapeake 3, Cecil 0
The Skipjacks tossed a a three-hitter in the opener, doing just enough on offense to take the opener. Justin Weaver, Franco Riposo, and Asher Friedman recorded the only hits of the game for the Seahawks, all three coming as singles.
Cecil's best chances to score came in the last two frames. Friedman reached base then advanced to second via fielding error, but the Seahawks went down in order from there to strand him. Cecil would then plant two runners on base with two outs in the seventh before Chesapeake's closer came in and struckout Andrew Baldini to end the game.
The Seahawks received strong performances from Colin Brosh and John Smith, with the duo combined for 10 strikeouts. Brosh (3-3) was responsible for seven of them but was saddled with the defeat.
Game Two - Chesapeake 10, Cecil 2
Braydon Janzer's two-run home run was the lone offensive bright spot for Cecil in the closing contest. The freshman backstop pounded a pitch over the left field wall to score the Seahawks only two runs of the day.
Cecil's attack fell flat with runners on base, beginning with Couper Stala (2-3) being stranded on third in the opening frame. The Seahawks put two runners on twice in the fifth, but a double play and a groundout killed the potential rally.
Unlike game one, Cecil's pitching could keep Chesapeake's bats at-bay, allowing 10 runs on nine hits and five walks. Colin Shea (1-4) was stuck with the loss.
