Seahawks Walk Off Cardinals
NORTH EAST - Cecil College baseball scored three runs in the seventh inning en route to an 8-7 comeback victory over the CCBC-Catonsville Cardinals in Tuesday's opener.
The Seahawks, trailing 7-5 in the bottom of the final frame, opened the inning with a Chris Woods single that stretched out an extra base after a error on the right fielder. A pair of groundouts brought Woods back home to make it 7-6. Sophomore infielder Justin Weaver steppd up to the dish next, bashing a ball over the center field wall to tie the contest.
After the Cardinals made a pitching change, Gio Malatesta struck out swinging but hustled out a dropped third strike to give Cecil life. Asher Friedman worked a full-count walk, during which Malatesta stole second and third, putting runners on the corners. With the winning run 90 feet away, Christian Crutch battled to a full count before slashing a pitch into right. Catonsville's right fielder sprinted in and made a diving grab, but dropped the ball on contact with the ground, allowing Malatesta to score the winning run.
The Seahawks improve to 17-13 with the win.
