Cecil Muscles Through Morris
NORTH EAST - Cecil College baseball weathered an early storm, then scored 11 runs over the final four innings to take the win in Saturday's opener against Morris.
The Seahawks struggled to keep Morris off the board in the first two innings. A pair of defensive miscues, a sac fly, and an RBI double putting the Titans up 4-0 heading into the third. Couper Stala finally put Cecil on the board in the bottom of the inning with solo shot to deep center.
After Ben Campbell (1-0) kept Morris scoreless in the fourth, the Seahawks reponded with their best inning that same frame. Cecil started with a pair of base knocks, then Braydon Janzer's double drove in Justin Weaver. Jimmy Garrett and Gio Malatesta followed the effort by driving home a pair of runs to tie the game. Two batters later and Cecil took the lead on Tyler Burger's bases-clearing double.
The Seahawks offense added four more runs over the next two innings, while Chris Woods allowed just one base runner before collecting the final six outs of the contest.
With the win, Cecil improves to 5-4 on the year.
