ARNOLD - Cecil College baseball looked strong for 13 1/2 innings on Sunday, winning game one with ease before dropping the closing contest in heartbreaking fashion.
The Seahawks remain at .500 (4-4) on the year.
GAME ONE - Cecil 14, Anne Arundel 6
Cecil's offense produced 14 runs on 16 hits and nine walks, crusing to a 14-6 victory over Anne Arundel in the opener.
The Seahawks came out the gates with five runs in the first inning, but the Riverhawks tied it over the next three frames. After a scoreless fourth, Cecil would outscore Anne Arundel 9-1 during the final three innings to seal the game.
All nine Seahawks in the lineup recorded at least one hit, while seven finished with one RBI or more. Hunter Sipel and Justin Weaver both finished with three hits and two RBI to headlined the offense.
Couper Stala and Gio Malatesta combine for three triples, matching the modern program record (2015-present) set during the 2016 season in a win over CCBC-Essex.
Chad Francis (1-1) earned the win from the mound in relief.
GAME TWO - Anne Arundel 6, Cecil 5
The Seahawks scored five unanswered runs over the first four innings to take the lead. Cecil's defense held Anne Arundel off the board for six frames, allowing the Riverhawks just three hits.
Things began to go sideways for the Seahawks in the seventh. A leadoff walk followed by two singles loaded the bases for the hosts. Cecil would change pitchers, but a pair of fielding errors sandwiched a bloop single that resulted in three runs for the Riverhawks. Cecil's pitching could not stop the bleeding thereafter, as the Seahawks walked two batters and hit a third to allow the winning run a free pass home.
Chris Woods and Tyler Burger topped the Seahawks with two hits apiece, while Burger and Justin Weaver both homered in defeat. Mike Preske (0-1) was stuck with the loss from the bump.
