Cecil Catches Catamounts for One

KEYSER - After dropping its fifth consecutive contest in the Sunday's opener, Cecil baseball bounced back and took game two off Potomac State.

After today's split, the Seahawks now sit at 6-14 on the season.

Game One - Potomac State 10, Cecil 0 - Box Score

Cecil could not get anything going on offense, producing just two hits and five walks over five frames. Potomac State led 8-0 after four innings, then put the contest to bed in the fifth  on a wild pitch and an error.

Justin Weaver and Ben Campbell recorded the Seahawks two hits. Kevin Gamber walked twice.

Cecil starting pitcher Ashtin Keith (0-1) was saddled with the loss.

Game Two - Cecil 9, Potomac State 5 - Box Score

The Seahawks offense woke up in the second game of day, posting six runs on four hits while also taking advantage of two Potomac Sate errors to start the game. The Catamounts never recovered, giving Cecil its first win over its NJCAA Division I foe since 2015.

Kevin Gamber sparked the rally, as his single to right brought home Hunter Sipel. After a Catamount error loaded the bases, Bailey Shindle and Kenny Scottborgh punched through back-to-back two-RBI doubles to expand Cecil's lead. A groundout by Ben Campbell later scored Scottborgh to make it 6-0 before the side was retired.

The Catamounts pulled two runs back in the bottom frame, then both teams were silent in the second. Shindle stepped up in the third and mashed a solo home run over the left field wall for a 7-2 lead.

Potomac State was more active in the middle innings, plating one run in the fifth to jumpstart the offense. The Catamounts looked to be off to the races again in the sixth, but Chad Francis came out of the bullpen in the sixth and stabilized things. The freshman worked the Seahawks out of a bases loaded jam, sandwiching a strikeout and a flyout around one RBI-single to end the inning.

Cecil pushed its advantage out to four in the seventh via an RBI-single by Justin Weaver and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Justin Cordero. Francis (S,1) shut the door on the Catamounts after four batters in the seventh, highlighted by a punchout to finish off the win.

Cordero, Shindle, and Gamber topped the Seahawks with two hits each. Shindle and Scottborgh combined to tally five RBI.

Hayden Kenney (1-1) earned the victory from the hill after holding things together for Cecil through the fourth and fifth innings.
