Catonsville Crunches Seahawks

BALTIMORE - After flipping a home-and-home series into a midweek doubleheader, the Seahawks traveled to CCBC-Catonsville Wednesday afternoon looking for a couple of Region 20 wins.

Things did not go as planned for Cecil, as the Cardinals came away with a sweep on the day.

The Seahawks dip to 5-11 on the season after the losses.

Game One - CCBC-Catonsville 10, Cecil 5 - Box Score

The Cardinals scored seven runs in the sixth inning, leading to a comeback win over Cecil in the first contest.

Catonsville scored two on a pair of sacrifice flies in the second, but a three-run bomb by Hunter Sipel put the Seahawks out in front. Cecil built on its lead in the following frame with Justin Weaver's RBI-double and a sac fly off the bat of Justin Cordero.

A third sac fly cut the Seahawks lead back to 5-3 after four. A silent fifth from both teams gave way to a booming sixth inning for the Cardinals, who would plate seven on six hits and four hit batters.

A double play and a strikeout sent Cecil packing in the top of the seventh.

Cordero and Christian Crutch led the Seahawks with two hits, while Sipel topped the team with three RBI.

Starter Chad Francis was handed a no decision on the mound. Austin Keefer (0-1) was pinned with the loss.

Game Two - CCBC-Catonsville 15, Cecil 2 - Box Score

Cecil's offense sputtered and its defense committed nine errors in game two, leading to a victory via mercy rule for the Cardinals

Hunter Sipel's two-RBI double put Cecil ahead early, but Catonsville went up 4-2 after plating a quartet of runs in the first. The Seahawks were shut out the rest of the way, while the Cardinals scored 11 runs over the next three innings.

Colin Brosh (1-1) suffered the loss from the rubber.
