Delaware Tech Edges Cecil in Home Opener

NORTH EAST - The Seahawks were unable to overcome an early deficit, falling 9-8 in a close contest with Delaware Tech to start the 2024 season.

Cecil got off to a rough start and trailed 8-1 after three innings. A move to sophomore Joel Blanco (ND) turned the tide for Cecil, as the right-handed flamerthrower struck out seven over the game's final 3 2/3 innings.

The Seahawks woke up at the plate once Blanco arrived, scoring three runs in the fourth and two in the sixth. Cecil threatened to score more with the bases loaded in the sixth, both only managed to plate a pair before the side was retired. This kept the visitors ahead 8-6 entering the final frame.

Delaware Tech finally scored on Blanco in the seventh, as a wild pitch brought home one run. It proved to be what seperated the two teams, as Cecil could only scrounge together two runs on Couper Stala double before Delaware Tech recorded the last out.

Cecil falls to 0-1 on the year with the loss.
