Baseball Splits With Knights of CCBC Essex in Home Double-Header

The Cecil College baseball team picked up their first victory of the 2021 season in game two of Wednesday's double-header against the Knights of CCBC Essex. After the win, the Seahawks improved their overall record to 1-4 while remaining at 0-1 in the conference. The Seahawks and Knights are scheduled to face-off again on Sunday, April 11 for a scheduled double-header that will count towards Region XX and MD JUCO standings.

In the first game of the day the Knights were steady offensively, scoring five runs in the first five innings before the Seahawks had a chance to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 5th, where the Knights walked in two runs in favor the Seahawks. After sophomore pitcher Brandon Snyder held the Knights scoreless in the top of the 6th, the Seahawks were able to strike again with an RBI-single from Brendan Reilly to cut the Knight's lead to 5-3.

Unfortunately, the Seahawks comeback fell short with a Knights' RBI-double, RBI-single, and two run home run in the top of the 7th to secure their victory in game one of the day. The Seahawks remained scoreless in the bottom of the inning for a final score of 9-3.

Game two was a lopsided contest, as the Seahwks quickly put up 16 runs in the opening two innings. The Knights suffered defensively with five errors that lead to ten of the Seahawks' 16 runs being unearned runs. Sophomore pitcher Cameron Blankenship pitched five complete innings, struck out two batters, allowed two earned runs on five hits, and got the win for the Seahawks.

Freshman Rafael Solano when 5-for-7 on the day while scoring three runs and collecting three RBI's followed by Brendan Reilly who went 4-for-6 with two runs and three RBI's.

The Seahawks will return to action at Brockell Field on Saturday, March 13 for a double-header against Chesapeake College. The Seahawks and Skipjacks will throw the first pitch of the day at 12:00 p.m.
