COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update As It Pertains to Cecil College Athletics

In response to the plan Governor Hogan announced on March 12 and the NJCAA's announcement on March 16 with the purpose of limiting the spread of COVID-19, the Cecil College athletic department is cancelling all athletic practices, competitions, post-season play, and national championship play through the remainder of the spring semester.  For further updates, fans can consult the individual team schedule pages or the composite schedule page. These outlets will be updated immediately as changes are confirmed.

Regarding eligibility for spring sports, no spring sport student-athlete who was enrolled at a member college in 2020 will be charged a year of participation.

This decision is subject to change depending on future findings at the state, region, or national level.

In addition to athletic competitions, the 2nd annual Cecil College Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony scheduled for Saturday, March 28 will be postponed until further notice. A make-up date will be confirmed in the coming weeks and all tickets purchased will be honored for the new date.

The campus will remain closed for Spring Break starting at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13 and will re-open on Monday, March 23 at 8:00 a.m. In addition to the college's closure for the week of March 16, and out of an abundance of concern for the continued good health of our community, the College has made the decision to move all staff and faculty to work online remotely for the weeks of Monday, March 23 through Sunday, April 5. In addition, all student credit classes will be moved online/Blackboard for the weeks of March 23 through April 5. Labs and onsite clinical rotations are suspended during the weeks of March 23 through April 5 and further updates will be provided as available.

All events have been canceled through Friday, May 8, in compliance with the social distancing recommendations from the CDC and state of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. The College will continually reassess the situation, following county, state, and CDC guidelines throughout this situation and provide updates accordingly.

Cecil College will continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis and update the college community as needed. Whether off-or-on campus, we encourage everyone to cooperate in taking steps to reduce the transmission of communicable diseases, by being aware of the following:

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Wash your hands frequently with warm, soapy water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover your mouth with tissues whenever you sneeze, and discard used tissues in the trash.
  • Avoid people who are sick with respiratory symptoms.
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces.
  • Practice social distancing to reduce spread of the virus.
