Cross Country Cruises Through the Finish at Goldey Beacom College's Fall Classic

The Cecil College men's & women's cross country teams competed in their second meet of the season on Friday, September 20 at Goldey Beacom College's annual Fall Classic. Four male and three female runners from Cecil College participated in the event through the rolling hills and scenic horse farm views of Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware.

The women were out on the course first for an early 9:00 a.m. start for their 5k race. For the second time in a row, first-year runner and Perryville graduate, Gabriella Scramlin was the first to cross the finish line for the Seahawks with a time of 26:53.90 which is more than two minutes faster than her 5k time two weeks prior at McDaniel College. Scramlin finished 24th out of 41 female runners. Hailey Lutter and Sarah Campbell finished with times of 29:45.10 and 30:27.90 for 33rd and 35th place.

The men's race followed at 9:45. on the same course, but increased their distance to an 8k race. Freshman Daniel Mitzel from Kent County High School earned 46th place out of 66 male runners with a time of 35:22.90 followed by Jakob Johnson with a time of 38:22.90 which landed him 56th place. Sean McGowan and Evan Martin finished with their respective times of 42:50.80 and 42:57.50.

Cecil College cross country will return to action on Saturday, October 5 when they travel to Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland to compete in the Cross Country Classic. The men's 8k race is slated to start at 10:30 a.m. followed by the women's 6k race at 11:15 a.m. on Goucher College's campus.
