Cecil Volleyball's Season Ends in Region 20 Quarterfinals

NORTH EAST, Md. - No. 6 Cecil fell 3-2 to No. 3 Frederick in Saturday afternoon's Region 20 Division II Quaterfinals.

The Seahawks nearly pulled off the upset against the Cougars in what many called one of the best games of the tournament. Cecil snagged set one, 25-22, to grab some early momentum. However, the Seahawks dropped the next two by a 25-15 scoreline. With its season on the line, Cecil dug in and held off a late Frederick push in the fourth set to win it 25-22.

Cecil and Frederick traded points early in the final set, but the Cougars eventually claimed four straight to force a Cecil timeout at 8-5. Frederick took three of the next four points after the break, but Cecil ripped off five points of their own after that to tie the set at 11-11. With all things even, it was Frederick who outscored Cecil 4-2 the rest of the way to punch its ticket to the semifinal spot.

In their final game as Seahawks, Lydia Davis and Amanda Wagner both shined on offense. Davis recorded a career high 24 kills, while Wagner finished one off her season best with 12 kills. Fellow sophomores Crystal Lenk and Natalie Diamond combined for eight kills and nine digs.

Cecil finishes its 2022 campaign with a 9-11 record.

Box Score Highlights

  • Lily Landis recorded 30 digs, the most by any player on the opening day of the tournament
  • Skylar Klinger picked up 39 assists
