Volleyball Starts Season With Three Set Sweep of Community College of Beaver County

The Cecil College women's volleyball team opened their 2019 season with a convincing three set victory over NJCAA Region XX DII foe Community College of Beaver County on Saturday, August 31. This straight set victory by scores of 25-14, 25-10, and 25-13 also marks Cecil's first win under first-year head coach Eden Barton, who also served as the program's assistant coach in previous years.

Freshman Rebecca Holman, a Perryville High School graduate, led the Seahawks statistically with her first double-digit kill performance while also adding six service aces, four blocks and five digs. First-year setter Megan Hoyle, from Rising Sun High School, contributed 19 assists, seven digs, two service aces, and a solo kill. Tori Smith followed with six kills of her own while Danielle Mixon added five kills and five service aces.

Kadi Davis, one of the Seahawks' three returning players, added 10 digs at the libero position, while sophomore Emily Maser added seven assists in the victory.

As a team, the Seahawks totalled 26 kills on 46 attempts, 26 assists, and 17 service aces while only committing 15 hitting errors, 10 service errors, and a single block error.

Cecil College women's volleyball will return to action on Thursday, September 5 when they travel to Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania to face Harcum College in a non-conference and non-region match. The Seahawks' home home-opener is scheduled for Saturday, September 7 when they host College of Southern Maryland and Union County College in a tri-match.
