Seahawks Sweep Titans on "Sophomore Day"

Cecil College women's volleyball picked up a sweep over the Titans on "Sophomore Day" and their final home contest of the regular season. The Seahawks improved to 13-5 overall and 8-2 in Maryland JUCO, while securing the No. 4 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region XX DII tournament hosted by College of Southern Maryland.

In an impressive showing by the Seahawks' sophomores, Cecil College beat the Titans of Community College of Beaver County in three sets by scores of 25-17, 26-24, and 25-10. After two competitive sets, the Seahawks put the match away by only allowing 10 points from the Titans in the third. Sophomore Morgan Mock took over the serving with a 16-9 lead, and after five service aces and two Titan's attack errors, brought her team to a 24-9 lead. A service error from C.C.B.C. in a game-point situation for the Seahawk's secured the "sophomore day" victory for Cecil College.

Sophomore hitting duo Emily Waldridge and Madeline Eckerd led the Seahawks' offense for a combined for 21 kills on the day. Morgan Mock tallied 3 kills and 3 blocks, in addition to her career-high 8 service aces. Sarah Blevins dished out 14 assists and three services aces followed by 12 assists and 5 aces from freshman setter Emily Maser.

The Cecil College volleyball team currently occupies the top spot nationally in Division II in service aces per set with 3.92 aces per set. In addition, three Seahawks including Emily Maser, Sarah Blevins, and Emily Waldridge rank in the top six in service aces per set in Maryland JUCO.

The Seahawks return to action in the post-season when they travel to the NJCAA Region XX DII tournament at College of Southern Maryland to face the No. 5 seed Hawks of Hagerstown Community College on Saturday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m.
