Volleyball Records First Sweep Over Skipjacks

The Cecil College women's volleyball team routed the Skipjacks of Cecil College in three quick sets on Thursday night, locking in their first MD JUCO and NJCAA Region XX DII sweep of the season. The Seahawks improved to 4-0 in the conference (5-2 overall) and currently occupy the top spot in MD JUCO standings of 11 women's volleyball programs. Their only losses this season come from NJCAA Region XX DII rival Northern Virginia Community College and non-region opponent Harcum College.

The Seahawks team let up their least number of points by an opponent so far this season with scores of 25-9, 25-18, and 25-13. Despite suffering in the kills category, Cecil College totaled 24 service aces throughout three sets, with seven out of the nine participating players tallying at least one ace. Sophomore libero Emily Ritchie registered a new career-high eight service aces followed by Madeline Eckerd serving up an additional four. Ritchie also collected her 114th dig (3.93 digs/set) of the season which marks her third in the conference in total digs and digs per set.

Defensive specialist Kadi Davis tied her season-high in kills with two while Madeline Eckerd and Morgan Mock combined for another 11 kills in the victory. Freshman setter Emily Maser added 12 assists for the Seahawks and currently occupies the 9th position in MD JUCO standings in assists per set with 3.48.

Cecil College's leading hitter Emily Waldridge came out of the victory with three kills, totaling 73 on the year, and three service aces. Waldrige, also among the conference statistical leaders, sits in 4th place in total kills and 6th place in kills per set with 2.52.

The Seahawks return to action at home on Monday, September 24 when they face Harcum College for the second time this season. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
