NOVA Hands Seahawks First Loss at Home

The Nighthawks of Northern Virginia Community College handed the Seahawks their first loss of the year on their home court and their first loss in Region XX DII. Cecil College volleyball falls to 4-2 overall but remains unbeaten in Maryland JUCO. Cecil College is currently sitting at the top spot in the conference standings with Montgomery College, each with a 3-0 record.

The Nighthawks hitting strength proved too much for the Seahawks' defense throughout the match on Tuesday night. The Seahawks were only able to capture a victory in the first set before Northern Virginia Community College countered with three in a row.

On the offensive end, the Seahawks tallied their most hitting errors, least number of assists, and least number of digs in a match since the beginning of the season. As a result, no player on the Cecil team was able to register double-digit kills for the first time this season.

Sophomore Emily Waldridge led the way with eight kills, despite her 11 hitting errors. She also added three service aces and 11 digs. Sarah Blevins delivered consistent serving for the Seahawks with four service aces while also assisting in seven kills. Morgan Mock and Madeline Eckerd were strong at the net against the Nighthawks' powerful hitters and came up with a combined five blocks.

Cecil College women's volleyball looks to bounce back from their loss at home with three more games at home in the next six days. The Seahawks will face the Skipjacks of Chesapeake College at home on Thursday, September 20 followed by Harcum College on September 24 and Hagerstown Community College on September 26.
