Volleyball Opens Season With Two Straight Wins

Cecil College women's volleyball improved to 2-0 after defeating Delaware Technical Community College, last year's Region XIX Division II runner-up, in four sets on Tuesday, September 4 by scores of 25-20, 25-11, 23-25, and 30-28. The Seahawks captured the first two sets with their aggressive serving and hitting before winning one of the last two competitive sets.

In four total sets, the Seahawks collected 34 team kills, 21 service aces, and nine blocks compared to Delaware Tech's 18 kills, 14 service aces, and five blocks. Comparatively, Cecil was more efficient with setting while tallying 34 assists coming from five players with only one ball handling error. Delaware Tech's team was tabbed with seven ball handling errors in their loss to the Seahawks.

Emily Waldridge and Madeline Eckerd tallied double-digit kills for the Seahawks while Emily Maser and Sarah Blevins tallied double-digit assists. Waldridge also led the team with 20 digs in the victory, followed by sophomore libero Emily Ritchie with 15 digs.

The Seahawks remained aggressive with their serves as five members of the team recorded three or more service aces in the match. Emily Waldridge dished six serves that were unable to be returned, landing her first in kills, digs, and service aces categories for the match. Madeline Eckerd added three aces of her own, leading the team with eight aces in Cecil's first two matches.

Morgan Mock and freshman Emily Maser were strong at the net, picking up a combined six blocks. Maser is second in assists on the year with 28, close behind returning sophomore setter Sarah Blevins with 31 assists.

The Seahawks look to continue their perfect start to the season with a non-conference match up at Harcum College on Wednesday, September 5. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
