Volleyball Cruises Past Lakers in Three Sets

Cecil College women's volleyball crusied past the Lakers of Garrett College in three sets in Saturday afternoon's MD JUCO match up. The match set the Seahawks up to maintain their number three ranking out of twelve women's volleyball programs in the conference. Cecil College improved their overall record to 8-4 overall and 8-2 in conference play.

Despite allowing the Lakers to score the first points in each set, the Seahawks quickly regained control of each match by scores of 25-5, 25-11, and 25-9. Captain Brittany Atkins led the way for the Seahawks with 11 kills on 20 attempts and eight service aces, followed by seven kills a piece from Kirra Barrett and Emily Waldridge. Barrett and freshman Sarah Blevins each dealt six service aces, while Blevins also added 26 assists in the match. Libero Emily Ritchie ended the day with 16 digs.

Atkins and Barrett maintained their top-ten rankings in kills per set and total kills. Barrett improved to second in the conference in service aces per set while Blevins improved to third in assists per set. To see full women's volleyball statistics, please visit www.mdjuco.org.

Cecil College looks to get revenge on the Harcum College Bears when they return home on Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. In their previous match up, the Seahawks trailed the Bears by a score of 3-1.
