Cecil Prevails Over Howard in Four Close Sets

The Cecil College women's volleyball team jumped out to a quick two-set lead over conference opponent Howard Community in Friday night's road match up. The Seahawks were victorious in the first set with a score of 25-20 and managed to pull out another hard-fought win in the second set with a score of 25-23.

Unable to secure the sweep, the Seahawks allowed the Dragons back in the game after falling 25-22 in the third set. Haunted by the come backs from previous opponents Harford Community College and Northern Virginia Community College earlier in the week, Cecil College was able to nail the fourth set to improve their overall record to 3-2 and 3-1 in conference play.

As a team, the Seahawks were able to register 43 kills off 41 assists, 37 digs, and four solo blocks against the Dragons. Cecil College was lead by sophomore Brittany Atkins' 18 kills, 36 assists from freshman Sarah Blevins, and 21 digs from freshman-libero Emily Ritchie. Sophomore Kirra Barrett also tallied 15 kills and 4 service aces in the victory.

After winning two of their last three road matches, the Seahawks return to their home court to face MD JUCO opponent, the Trojans of Allegany College of Maryland, on Tuesday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m.
