Volleyball Splits in Tri-Match at Harford

The Cecil College women's volleyball team played a total of ten sets in two matches on Tuesday, September 12 at the APG Federal Credit Union Arena on Harford Community College's campus. The Seahawks came out of the tri-match with a win against the Fighting Owls and a loss to the Nighthawks.

The Seahawks started the match strong against their local conference rival, the Fighting Owls of Harford Community College and won the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-19. After what seemed to be a sweep, Harford came back to win the third and fourth sets, forcing the fifth and final set. The Seahawks and Fighting Owls were tied 5-5 in the fifth until Cecil initiated an 8-0 run. After back-to-back kills from freshman Emily Waldridge and a few Harford errors, the Seahawks had a 13-5 lead mid way through the fifth set. Cecil finalized the win with a kill by freshman Morgan Mock, assisted by freshman Sarah Blevins, who ended the match with 34 total assists. Sophomore Brittany Atkins finished the match with 16 kills, followed by an additional 15 kills from Kirra Barrett

After having only a half hour of rest time, Cecil College's second match of the day started out much the same as they defeated the Nighthawks of Northern Virginia Community College in the first two sets. Similarly, the Nighthawks came back with two wins in the third and fourth sets, tying the match at 2-2. Playing their tenth set of the day, the Seahawks dropped the match to the Nighthawks by a score of 15-13.

The Seahawks improved to 2-1 in MD JUCO and 2-2 overall. Volleyball returns to action on Thursday, September 14 with a road game against conference oppenent Howard Community College at 7:00 p.m.
