Shields Converts PK in 11-1 Loss to Raptors

Sophomore defender Katherine Shields' goal off a PK wasn't enough to hold off the high-powered offense of the Montgomery College Raptors on Tuesday. Cecil College falls to 0-6 overall and in Maryland JUCO action, landing them in last place in the conference standings out of nine women's soccer programs.

The Raptors opened up the scoring early and often against the unexperienced Seahawks' team, putting in their first four goals within the first 32 minutes of play. In the 33rd minute of the game, freshman forward Megan O'Neal found herself fouled in the penalty area granting Cecil College their first penalty kick attempt of the season. Head coach Pat Letts nominated Katherine Shields, one of the Seahawks' two returning players, for the opportunity to score her team's third goal of the season. Shields buried the goal in the top left corner of the net to tally her first goal of the season and of her career. Montgomery College scored one more before the half time break, leading Cecil College 5-1.

The Seahawks were unable to maintain possession for the majority of the second half and let up six more goals before the final whistle, suffering an 11-1 loss to the Raptors. Camryn Argenziano tallied 12 saves on 21 shots on goal in her 67 minutes in goal for Cecil College. Cheyenne Burchette tallied two more saves in the remaining minutes of the match up.

Cecil College women's soccer returns to action at Calvert Regional Park on Friday, October 5 when they face the Cougars of Frederick Community College. Kick off is set for 3:00 p.m. followed by the men's soccer game at 5:00 p.m.
