Seahawks Face Back-to-Back MD JUCO Losses

Cecil College women's soccer opened their season with back-to-back losses to Maryland JUCO oppenents, Hagerstown Community College and College of Southern Maryland.

In their first game in over two years, the Seahawks struggled on the offensive an defensive side of the ball, only recording two shots and 10 goals against versus the Hawks of Hagerstown Community College. Freshman forwards Megan O'Neal and Ashley Kelly recorded the two shots for the Seahawks, both missed the mark of being on goal.

The Seahawks were led by two returning sophomores Katherine Shields and Brittany Taylor, who were members of the team in the fall of 2016. Three different team members were in goal for Cecil College against Hagerstown including Natalie Ginski, Clara Cooper, and Camryn Argenziano. Between the three, they totaled 23 saves while Argenziano tallied 15 of her own in the second half.

With hopes of bouncing back from their loss against Hagerstown, Cecil College was unable to defeat the Hawks of College of Southern Maryland four days later. The Hawks tallied a quick goal in the 6th minute of play, but both teams remained scoreless until the start of the second half.

The Seahawks would give up another two goals in the 55th and 57th minutes of play to give the Hawks a 3-0 advantage, but were thirsty for their first goal of the season which came at the 70th minute mark. Megan O'Neal found the back of the net off a corner kick from freshman defender Natalie Ginski for Cecil College's first points.

Cecil College improved from the previous game after firing eight shots, with seven of them on goal, in the 3-1 loss to College of Southern Maryland. Clara Cooper and Cheyenne Burchette split time in the net and each grabbed 11 saves.

Cecil College women's soccer will return to action on Wednesday, September 19 when they travel to face the Dragons of Howard Community College. Kick off is set for 4:00 p.m.
