Women's Basetball Defeats Anne Arundel in Last Home Contest

Cecil College women's basketball defeated conference foe Anne Arundel Community College by a score of 65-58 on Wednesday night. The match-up with the Riverhawks was their last home contest before a four-game road streak to end the regular season. Wednesday night's win improved the Seahawks' overall record to 10-10 overall and 5-4 against conference opponents.

The Seahawks and Riverhawks fought a back-and-forth battle that latest the majority of the game with each team experiencing 15 different lead changes and seven different ties. The first quarter ended with an Anne Arundel one-point favor and flipped to a Seahawks' two-point favor after two quarters, due to a steal by Destiny Perry and fast break lay up by Kayla Thompson as the first half expired.

Cecil scored the second half's opening six points, but would allow the Riverhawks' to take the lead one last time with 1:25 remaining in the third quarter. The Seahawks closed the third quarter with a 8-2 run to head into the last quarter with a 4-point lead.

The Seahawks held on to their lead in the last ten minutes of action and took their largest lead of nine points with 0:04 left on the clock to secure the 65-58 win on their home court.

Kayla Thompson led in scoring for the Seahawks with 25 points while also contributing eight rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in the victory. Jayla Smith followed with a double-double in points and rebounds and tallied five assists and two blocks. Destiny Perry added 12 additional points and caused a career-high eight turnovers. Freshman forwards Trinity Wailes and Haley Krone combined for 15 points for the Seahawks and each grabbed double-digit rebounds.

The Seahawks return to action on Thursday, February 13 when they travel to Lackawanna College for a non-conference and non-region game. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
