Cecil College women's basketball dropped their fourth straight contest against the Skipjacks of Chesapeake College by a score of 85-42. The Seahawks fall to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in MD JUCO action, ranking them 11th out of fourteen teams in the conference. The Seahawks preceed Prince George's Community College, Garrett College, and Allegany College of Maryland in the conference standings, all of whom have not picked up a win in MD JUCO so far this season.

The last time the Seahawks faced the Skipjacks was at the 2018 NJCAA Region XX DII Championship, hosted on their home court. The Seahawks picked up their first ever NJCAA Division II National Tournament birth with a 74-48 win a little over a year ago. In their first re-match since the post season, the Seahawks and Skipjacks traded places in the winners column.

Saturday's contest remained competitive through much of the first half before the Skipjacks would pull away in the second half due to Cecil's lack of reserves. Freshman guard Tynaya Segure opened up scoring with a made three-pointer, but Chesapeake College went on a 13-0 run before freshman guard Kayla Thompson swished the Seahawks' second three-pointer of the game. The two teams found themselves tied 14-14 of another made basket from beyond the arc from Ashley Kelly at the 9:27 mark in the second quarter. The Seahawks eventually took a two-point lead after capitalizing off an offensive rebound from Donae Allen.

Cecil College did not see the lead for the rest of the match, although the game was even a few more times before the half time break. Plagued but having no reserves on the bench, the Seahawks trailed by as many as 43 as the final buzzer went off. Freshman guard duo Tynaya Segure and Kayla Thompson combined for 29 of the Seahawks' points, including five made three's. Segured also tallied 16 rebounds, three assists, and four steals while Thompson added another 10 rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Donae Allen and Ashley Kelly also recorded career-highs in points in the loss to Chesapeake.

Cecil College women's basketball returns to action with hopes of snapping their four-game losing streak when travel to Anne Arundel Community College on Monday, January 14. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
