Seahawks Snap Three-Game Losing Streak

Cecil College women's basketball picked up their first victory of the season, after starting off their year with three straight losses. The Seahawks defeated the Trojans of Allegany College of Maryland 85-39, as a result of a balanced scoring effort offensively, to improve to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The Seahawks opened up scoring early after receiving the tip off and, just eight seconds later, freshman guard Kayla Thompson made her first jumper of the game. She sparked an 11-0 run to open up the contest and Cecil College held on to their lead for the remainder of the game. Cecil College held the Trojans to just 13 points in first half and lead by as many as 50 points,off a made layup by Tamara Evans, in the fourth quarter to secure their first win, including a win in the conference and region division standings.

The Seahawks dominated the Trojans in rebounds 69-31 and were able to put back 22 of their total points on second chances. Defensively, Cecil College caused the Trojans to turn the ball over 17 times and were able to turn those turnovers into 17 points offensively.

Freshman guard Tynaya Segure recorded her first career triple-double after she collected 18 points, 18 rebounds, and dished out 11 assists in the win. Freshman Tamara Evans and Amya Mumford each tallied a double-double in points and rebounds categories for the Seahawks followed by an additional 15 points from Kayla Thompson

Megan O'Neal, Ashley Kelly, and Donae Allen combined for 13 points, 13 rebounds, and three steals in the Seahawks' combined effort to beat Allegany College of Maryland.

Cecil College women's basketball will return to action on their home court on Saturday, December 1 when they face NJCAA Region XX DII rival, the Catamounts of Potomac State College of WVU. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
