Lockwood, Seahawks Score Season High Points

The Cecil College women's basketball team recorded a season-high 115 points in Saturday's victory over the Hawks of College of Southern Maryland. The Seahawks remain unbeaten in NJCAA Region XX Division II play and improve to 9-3 in MD JUCO, only suffering losses to Montgomery College, Harford Community College, and Baltimore City Community College. The Seahawks upgrade their overall record to 17-4 while currently experience an 81% win percentage.

After winning the tip off, the Seahawks commenced their scoring trail just eight seconds into the game with a wide-open jumper made my sophomore guard Alexis Stubblefield, assisted by sophomore forward Keishon Harrell. Tr'shiya Hollis found herself with a breakaway lay up followed by a made three-pointer from Alexis Stubblefield to put the Seahawks up 7-0 in the opening minutes.

Women's basketball netted 32 points in the first quarter, on pace for setting a new season-high in scoring. The Seahawks dominated statistically, shooting an impressive 61.3% from the floor and 47.4% from beyond the arc. The Seahawks dominated with 54 rebounds compared to the Hawks 21 rebounds, and recorded five less turnovers throughout the contest. Cecil College was able to capitalize off the Hawks' 23 turnovers, and converted 33 of their 115 points off the Hawks' mistakes.

Sophomore guard Nyjayha Lockwood tallied a season-high 31 points in the win over College of Southern Maryland, including going 13-16 from the floor and 5-7 from beyond the arc. Lockwood currently leads the team in points per game with 15. Briana McAllister followed with an additional 21 points and 16 rebounds to record another double-double on the year. Other Seahawks recording double digit points included Alexis Stubblefield, Kearah Henry, and Tiana Garvin. Sophomore guard Tr'shiya Hollis netted nine points and collected four rebounds and two steals in her fifth game played this season.

Women's basketball returns to action on Wednesday, February 7 when they face the Riverhawks of Anne Arundel Community College in a conference match up. The Seahawks look to pick up their fourth straight win at 5:00 p.m. Live stats will be available for the contest.
