Seahawks Remain Unbeaten in Region Division

A double-double in points and rebounds from both sophomores Chyna Steele and Tiana Garvin helped to fuel Cecil College's victory over conference rival Frederick Community College. Women's basketball improves to an undefeated 7-0 in the Region XX Division II standings, 5-4 overall, and 8-3 in MD JUCO. The Seahawks currently occupy the fourth spot in the conference standings and the top spot in the region division standings.

Two of Chyna Steele's 18 points came within the first ten seconds of the game to get the Seahawks on the scoreboard early. In a back-and-forth, action-packed first quarter Cecil College trailed by two at the conclusion of the quarter. Throughout the remainder of the game, the Seahawks and Cougars would experience four different ties and eight different lead changes until Cecil College took their largest lead of ten points off a steal from Tr'shiya Hollis and made lay up by Nicole Guy-Thomas. The Seahawks would let the Cougars back within three points but never allowed them to regain the lead for a final score of 79-74.

Chyna Steele finished the game with 18 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots followed by 17 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots from Tiana Garvin. Sophomore forward Briana McAllister contributed an additional 11 points and eight rebounds in the victory.

Cecil College women's baskeball looks to remain unbeaten in the Region XX Division II standings when they return to action on Wednesday, January 31 at Allegany College of Maryland. Tip off is set for 5:00 p.m.
