Seahawks Pick Up Two Road Regional Wins

The Cecil College men's and women's basketball teams each captured two regional wins this weekend at Potomac State College of West Virginia University. Women's basketball cruised to a win and improved their overall record to 13-3 as the men snapped their four-game losing streak off a buzzer beater by freshman guard Cornell Corbin.

Women's basketball traveled to Potomac State looking to bounce back from their loss to Harford Community College just two days prior. The Seahawks jumped out to quick start and ended their day with a 32-point margin of victory. Sophomore guard Tiana Garvin led the way for the Seahawks with a double-double in points and rebounds. Garvin shot 11-18 from the floor for a total of 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the victory.

Three other Seahawks, including Nyjayha Lockwood, Nicole Guy-Thomas, and Alexis Stubblefield, tallied double-digit points. Cecil College improves to 13-3 overall and will return to action to face conference rival Chesapeake College on Friday, January 19 at 5:00 p.m.

After countless lead changes throughout the men's regional match up, the Seahawks were able to capitalize off the Catamounts missing the front end of a one and one attempt. After the miss, Potomac State held on to a one-point lead. The Seahawks were able to find freshman guard Cornell Corbin to convert a lay up with 2.9 seconds left on the clock to secure a victory for the Seahawks. Corbin contributed a total of 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals for the Seahawks.

Jordan Griggs lead the Seahawks statistically with 20 points, including shooting a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Caleb Johnson added 13 points while freshman guard Kamden Stubblefield came off the bench to contribute 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Men's basketball improves their overall record to 7-9 and will return to action at home on Wednesday, January 17 to face the Lions of CCBC Dundalk. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
