Women's Basketball Splits At Holiday Classic

The Cecil College women's basketball team came out of the Cecil College Basketball Holiday Classic with an win over CCBC Catonsville and their second loss of the season to ASA College, Ny. The Seahawks improve to 11-2 overall.

In the inaugural game for the addition of the women's tournament to the Holiday Classic, the Seahawks defeated the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville for the second time this year by a score of 107-26, for their largest margin of victory so far this season. Chyna Steele lead the Seahawks with a doulbe-double, including 23 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Nyjayha Lockwood followed with an additional 21 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

Cecil College held the Cardinals to just six points at half, and headed into the break with a 52-point lead after a made three-pointer from freshman guard Kearah Henry. Every player on the Seahawks roster tallied atleast six points in the win. Sophomore Alexis Stubblefield finished with 18 points followed by Nicole Guy-Thomas with another 15 points.

The Seahawks were handed their second loss of the season from the Avengers of ASA College on Sunday. Unable to match up with the height of the Avengers' forwards, Cecil College finished the game in a 19-point defecit. Tiana Garvin lead statistically in the loss with a double-double in points and rebounds, followed by 12 points from Nyjayha Lockwood and an additional 9 points from Alexis Stubblefield.

Cecil College started the contest with two quick buckets from Briana McAllister and Tiana Garvin, resulting in an ASA timeout. The Seahawks lead until 4:24 left in the first quarter an were never able to regain the lead. 

Women's basketball returns to action after the holiday break when they travel to Hagerstown Community College on Saturday, January 6 for a conference match up. Tip off is set for 2:00 p.m. in Hagerstown, Md.
