Women's Basketball Improves to 8-1

Cecil College women's basketball defeated the Lakers of Garrett College during Saturday's MD JUCO match up to capture their fourth conference win and eight win overall. The Seahawks improve their overall record to 8-1 and currently have the most wins in the conference at this point in the season.

The Lakers were able to keep the score close for the first few minutes of the opening quarter with a few made three-point shots, before the Seahawks picked up steam. With five minutes remaining in the first quarter, a made three-pointer by sophomore guard Nicole Guy-Thomas sparked a Seahawks' run. Cecil College scored the next thirteen unanswered points to put them up 25-6 with three quarters to play.

Converting turnovers to layups in their full-court press, the Seahawks gained a confortable 38 point lead heading into halftime, eventually resulting in a 97-38 win by Cecil College. This win marks the Seahawks' second-straight and fourth total win this season by a forty-point margin or more.

Six members of the Seahawks' squad tallied double-digit points, including sophomore Briana McAllister's 16 points and 10 rebounds. Tiana Garvin lead Cecil College in scorining with her season-high 18 points, followed by Nyjayha Lockwood and Kearah Henry with 15 points each, and Chyna Steele with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Sophomore point guard Alexis Stubblefield added another 14 points, while currently averaging a team-high 16.7 points per game.

Cecil College women's basketball returns to action on Wednesday, December 6 when they travel to face the Dragons of Howard Community College on a conference contest. Tip off is set for 5:00 p.m.
