Seahawks Start Season with Three Straight Wins

The Cecil College women's basketball team captured their third straight non-conference win to start the season after defeating the Harcum College Bears by a comfortable score of 92-78 on Wednesday, November 8. The Seahawks previous two wins came from defeats over Rowan College of Bulington County and Delaware Technical Community College.

After a back and forth start to the contest, the Harcum College Bears were first on the scoreboard and led 6-0 after the first few minutes of play, in their only lead of the game. The Seahawks scored the the next 13 unanswered points off a few crucial rebounds and steals from sophomore guard Brianna McAllister. McAllister ended the day with 17 points and tallied three steals and two blocks.

Cecil College was able to cruise through the rest of the half, going into the break with a 52-28 lead. The Seahawks took their largest lead with 8:12 remaining in the third quarter off a made lay up by sophomore guard Tiana Garvin to put the Seahawks up 30 points.

The finals score of the contest 92-78. The Seahawks were lead by sophomore Nyjayha Lockwood with 21 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Chyna Steele recorded 18 points, going 8-9 from the floor and 1-1 from beyond the arc. Freshman Kearah Henry came off the bench for the Seahawks, making an immediate impact with 13 points and putting defensive pressure on the Bears' ball handlers.

Cecil College women's basketball returns to action this weekend as they travel to Howard College for the Dragon Invitational. The Seahawks will play Chesapeake College on Saturday, November 11 at 5:00 p.m. and College of Southern Maryland on Sunday, November 12 at 1:00 p.m.
