Cross Country Runners Earn Personal-Bests at Hood College Open

The Cecil College men's & women's cross country teams competed in their final regular season meet on Saturday, October 19 at the 13th Annual Hood College Open. Four male and three female runners from Cecil College participated in the event that entailed loops through Utica District Park located in Frederick, Maryland.

In the largest event of the year, 135 female runners lined the starting blocks at 10:00 a.m. for the women's 6k race.  For the fourth time this season, Gabriella Scramlin was the top female finisher from Cecil College with a personal-best time of 30:52.8 followed by her teammates Sarah Campbell and Hailey Lutter. Campbell cross the finish line at 11:39.2 followed by Lutter at 34:59.0 earning their personal best time, as well.

The men's 8k race followed at 11:00 a.m. which included 146 male runners. Freshman Daniel Mitzel was the first to cross the finish line for the Seahaws for the third race in a row while setting a personal-best of 32:37.95 and a 93rd place finish, shaving almost three minutes off his first 8k time at Goldey Beacom College. Jakob JohnsonSeth Edwards, and Sean McGowan finished with respective times of 33:43.7, 36:13.3, and 38:50.4 which were all personal records.

Cecil College cross country will compete in the MD JUCO and NJCAA Region XX DI Championships on Saturday, October 26 at Hagerstown Community College. The women's race will kick off at 10:00 a.m. followed by the men's race at 11:00 a.m.
