Mitzel and Scramlin Finish in Top 10 at Goucher College Cross Country Classic

The Cecil College men's & women's cross country teams competed in their third meet of the season on Saturday, October 5 at Goucher College's annual Cross Country Classic. Three male and three female runners from Cecil College participated in the event winding through Goucher's campus and scenic wooded trails in Baltimore, Maryland.

Twenty two male runners from six different schools or universities, lined the starting blocks at 10:30 a.m. for their 8k race. Freshman Daniel Mitzel was the first to cross the finish line for the Seahaws for the second race in a row with a time of 34:35.15, shaving nearly a minute off his previous 8k time at Goldey Beacom College. Mitzel's personal best earned him the 8th place trophy. Jakob Johnson and Seth Edwards finished in 17th and 18th place with respective times of 38:58.30 and 39:49.69.

The women's 6k race followed at 11:15 a.m., which included 26 female runners from the same six schools/universities and two Goucher College alumni (not scored). Gabriella Scramlin received the 7th place trophy with a time of 32:46.96. Scramlin has been the Seahawks' top female runner in all three meets so far. Hailey Lutter and Sarah Campbell finished in 13th and 14th place with respective times of 35:53.84 and 36:09.52.

Cecil College cross country will return to action for their final regular season meet on Saturday, October 19 when they travel to Utica Park in Frederick, Maryland to particpate in the 13th Annual Hood College Open. The men's 8k race is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. followed by the women's 6k race at 10:30 a.m.
