Cross Country Competes in First Ever Meet at McDaniel's Green Terror Challenge

The Cecil College men's & women's cross country teams competed in their unaugural meet on Friday, September 6th at McDaniel College's Green Terror Challenge in Westminster, Maryland. Five male and three female runners from Cecil College participated in the event.

The men took the starting blocks first at 4:20 p.m. to compete in an 5k race through the rolling hills of McDaniel's campus and golf course. The Seahawks came in 4th place out of four complete teams, but freshman Jakob Johnson was first to cross the finish line for the green and gold with a time of 22:53.33 which marked 15th place out of 24 male runners. Daniel Mitzel was second for the Seahawks to cross the finish line at 24:55.03 for 19th place.

The women followed at 4:50 p.m. on the same course and same distance. With only three runners, the Seahawks were unable to qualify as a team, but finished back-to-back-to-back. Gabriella Scramlin, Sarah Campbell, and Hailey Lutter finished with times of 29:00.87, 29:55.56, and 31:47.56 for 9th, 10th, and 11th place out of 11 female runners.

Cecil College cross country will return to action on Friday, September 20 when they travel to Goldey Beacom College to compete in the Fall Classic. The women's 6k race is slated to start at 9:00 a.m. followed by the men's 8k at 9:45 a.m. at Carousel Park.
