Soccer Squads Break Down Against Cougars

Cecil College men's and women's soccer were defeated by margins of at least seven goals by Maryland JUCO and Region XX rivals, the Cougars of Frederick Community College. Both Seahawks' soccer programs fall to occupy the last spot in conference standings thus far in the season.

Cecil College women's soccer opened up the double header with their seventh contest of the season against Frederick Community College. Limited by bodies on the sideline, the Seahawks were outplayed from the first whistle. The Cougars opened up scoring just 90 seconds into the match and accumulated six goals, four of which were assisted, in the first half. The Cougars outshot the Seahawks 28 shots to zero shots in the first half and 44 shots to zero shots in the match.

Frederick's women's soccer team put up another three goals in the second half to secure the 9-0 victory over Cecil College. Freshman Camryn Argenziano recorded eight saves in almost 37 minutes before suffering an injury that would keep her out of the goal for the remainder of the match. The Seahawks' other nine saves came from freshman Clara Cooper and sophomore Cheyenne Burchette.

Cecil College women's soccer fell to 0-7 in the conference and overall after the loss to the Cougars. They will return to action on Tuesday, October 9th when they travel to face the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville in the first match of a MD JUCO double header at 4:00 p.m.

In the second game of the double header, Cecil College men's soccer was defeated by Frederick Community College, who have only suffered a single loss this year, by a score of 8-1. The Seahawks were able to keep the game close for much of the first half giving up the first goal of the game in the 26th minute. The Cougars were able to find the back of the net two more times before half time as the Seahawks remained scoreless and trailed by three with 45 minutes left to play.

Cecil College trailed by as many as five before tallying their first goal after a three-game scoring drought. Freshman Matthew Christian found freshman forward Elie Zalambo in front of the net in the 70th minute to make the score 5-1.

Frederick tallied another three goals before the final whistle to defeat the Seahawks 8-1. Freshman goalkeeper Ian Gehris recorded 7 saves, including a stopped penalty kick attempt, in 90 minutes in the net.

Cecil College men's soccer fell to 1-8 overall and 0-6 in the conference standings. The Seahawks will return to action on Tuesday, October 9th when they travel to face the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville in the second match of a MD JUCO double header at 6:00 p.m.
