Men's Soccer Starts with Three Straight Losses

Although much improved from the previous year, Cecil College men's soccer started their fall 2018 season with three straight losses after suffering in a 1-0 battle to the Hawks of College of Southern Maryland. In last year's meeting, the Seahawks let up four goals to College of Southern Maryland.

The Seahawks tallied the most shots and most shots on goal so far this season after firing 10 total shots with eight of them being on target. Freshman midfielder Henry Medrano was three-for-three in shots on goal but was unable to get one past College of Southern Marylands' goal keeper.

The first half was evenly matched while both teams remained scoreless in the first 45 minutes. College of Southern Maryland tallied six shots and one corner kick in the first half compared to Cecil College's seven shots and one corner kick. The Seahawk's were able to maintain possession for most of the first half due to seven fouls committed by the Hawks team compared to Cecil's one foul.

Shortly after halftime, in the 48th minute of play, College of Southern Maryland's Nicholas Krisko was able to head and corner kick ball over the head of freshman goalkeeper Ian Gehris to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage that they would hold on to for the remainder of the game. Ian Gehris saw eight shots on goal and made seven saves, giving him 25 saves thus far through the season.

Cecil College men's soccer will look to snap their three game losing streak when they travel to Allegany College of Maryland on Tuesday, September 18. Kick off is set for 5:00 p.m. at Mountain Ridge High School in Frostburg, Maryland.
