Second Half Run Powers First Conference Win

Second Half Run Powers First Conference Win

The Cecil College men's soccer team showed up on Tuesday, September 5 with a rejuvenated attitude after the long holiday break. After starting the season with a three game losing streak in the span of five days, the Seahawks were eager to take control of their first conference opponent.

The Seahawks were patient with their possessions, which resulted in countless shot opportunities, although they struggled to get them on target. In the first 10 minutes of play, Cecil flung three shots high or wide of the net, before #5 Patrick Kelly buried the first goal of the game from the 18-yard box. Kelly's shot was perfectly placed in the top left corner, off an assist from #12 Jacob Smith.

Just before the half, Allegany College of Maryland scored off a corner kick attempt and put in the first goal of the second half to gain a 2-1 advantage over the Seahawks with 30 minutes to play. During the Seahawks' scoreless drought, they attempted eighteen shots, thirteen of which were sent high or wide of the net.

The drought would end in the 69th minute of play when #8 Seth Graham tirelessley followed his previous shot attempt and placed the ball in an empty net, tying the match 2-2. Trojan's goal keeper found himself on the ground from Graham's initial attempt.

Freshman forward #2 John Savage followed up Graham's goal with three of his own in the final ten minutes of the game to help the Seahawks to their first victory of season and first win against a conference opponent.

The Seahawks improve to 1-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in MD JUCO. The Cecil College men's soccer team returns to action Friday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m. as they travel to Anne Arundel to face the Riverhawks in the first away contest of the season.
