Cecil Scores First Goal in Loss to Manor

The Cecil College Seahawks were eager to get on the score board in Wednesday's match up against the Manor College Blue Jays, after going scoreless in their first two contests. Most of the opening minutes were played on the Blue Jays' offensive end and they were able to get a shot off just 45 seconds into the contest. Although their first few attempts were off target, the Blue Jays were the first to tally a goal at 16:22.

The Seahawks were quick to equalize as they captialized off the kick off, just 1:09 after the Blue Jays' goal. Freshman Jarrett Bowman, recording his first career goal, was able to poke a loose ball right past the Blue Jays goal keeper to tie the game at 1-1.

After a few minutes of back and forth play, Manor College was able to convert a Cecil College offsides call into a goal with six minutes remaining until the half, making the score 2-1. The Blue Jays put another one in the back of the net before the horn for halftime, giving them a two goal lead with 45:00 left to play.

The Seahawks were successful in the second half at maintaing possession, as they attempted six shots during the second half, which adds up to more attempts than their first two contests combined. Unfortunately, Cecil College couldn't convert as the shots flew high and wide of the net.

Manor College doubled Cecil College's shot attempts in the second half and scored on two of them, as freshman goal keeper Max Foppiano recorded his first career minutes. The final score of the contest was 5-1 in favor of the Blue Jays.

The Seahawks return to Calvert Regional Park on Tuesday, September 5 at 4:00 p.m. to face the Trojans of Allegheny College of Maryland with hopes of capturing their first victory of the season.
