Cecil Knocks Out Titans, Advances to Semis

NORTH EAST, Md. - In Tuesday night's opening round of the Region 20 Division II Tournament, No. 3 Cecil took down No. 6 Beaver County via 83-66 scoreline. With the win, the Seahawks have earned a trip Frederick for the Region 20 Division II Tournament Semifinals. 

Both the Seahawks and Titans sank 26-of-70 attempts from the field. Where Cecil seperated itself was on shot location, draining four more three-pointers than Beaver. The Seahawks were also able to draw seven more fouls on Beaver, leading to a 23-for-32 clip from the charity stripe. The Titans had 16 attempts and made 11.

Despite dealing with foul trouble of his own, Frank Toney led Cecil's offense with 21 points. The sophomore guard knocked down five of Cecil's seven three-point makes on the evening. Marlon Lewis was next in line with 15 points, while Vernon Simmons just missed out on a double-double (14 points, nine rebounds).

Cecil improves to 20-11 on the season after the victory.

Turning Point

An And-1 pulled the Titans with seven points of the lead with 8:42 to go in the game. However, Cecil would halt Beaver's momentum with a 12-2 run over the next two minutes. The gap proved to be too wide for the Titans, who trailing by double-digits the rest of the way.
