Seahawks Crush Cougars on Sophomore Day

NORTH EAST, Md. - Cecil men's basketball put on a show in front of a packed house Saturday afternoon, soundly defeating Region 20 Division II foe Frederick 92-63 in the Seahawks regular season home finale.

After a slow opening 20 minutes, the Seahawks blasted Frederick with 53 points in the second. 51 of Cecil's 53 points came in the first 15 minutes of the half, where the Seahawks led by as much as 43 points.

Dominick Carrington (18 points) and Frank Toney (15 points) led the Seahawks in scoring. The sophomore backcourt duo scored or had an assist on 26 of Cecil's 35 made shots.

With the victory, Cecil improves to 18-11 (8-2 Region 20) on the season.

Turning Point

A low-scoring game early developed into a sprint midway through the first. The Cougars hit a three-pointer at the 8:15 mark to put the score at 16-13, but the Seahawks went on an 8-1 to go ahead by 10. Frederick struck for four points thereafter, but Cecil outscored them 15-9 over the final six minutes to pull into the break up by double-digits.
